Thrift Store Jewelry Box Makeover

Despite its unfortunate current condition, the charming shape of this jewelry box caught my eye while browsing at an Out of the Closet thrift shop. I liked the shape and thought the bones of the box were good, so I decided to work some DIY magic to transform it into something I am now happy to display on my shelf. I love projects like these, where you take a rundown or badly decorated everyday piece of furniture or accessory–like a jewelry box, or a vase or side table–and give it a new life by making a few fundamental, but simple, upgrades. Crafting Lately: Tissue Paper Flowers

Lately I have fallen in love with making tissue and crepe paper flowers. In the past I had always written off paper and fabric flowers as typically somewhat tacky tabletop accessories, but my opinion toward faux blooms completely changed when I was introduced to the work of artist and stylist Livia Cetti. I got her book for Hanukkah, in which she outlines her techniques for creating different types of blooms, and ever since then, my floors have consistently been covered in a layer of tissue paper cuttings (just kidding–I vacuum and sweep daily…). I have loved going through her book and practicing her techniques, and doing so has led me to develop techniques of my own, which is even more fun for me! Decorative Dinner Napkins

This is another project that can be used for Valentine’s Day or for any other festive occasion. All you have to do is pick out ribbons that match your theme. I used white dinner napkins and sewed on three different types of ribbon to create a set of napkins that will instantly upgrade any Valentine’s Day tablescape!
